Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
The desire to have a suitable kitchen for ministry is finally coming to fruition at the Transfiguration Center in Bryansk, Russia. Oksana Leonova, who has been the director of this ministry for homeless and underprivileged children since 2000, rejoices that the final stages of the reconstruction have commenced. The ceiling, walls and floor have been completed this past month. Now, the cabinets and counters, as well as the appliances, need to be installed. With a new kitchen, the volunteer staff of the Transfiguration Center will be able to serve more effectively and efficiently the children that come to this “home away from home.”
For almost two decades, the Transfiguration Center was utilizing the church’s kitchen and dining hall to feed the children. Then, a small “makeshift” kitchen was created on the second floor of the Center so that the ministry would not interfere with church functions and outreaches. When a portion of the first floor was donated to the center for use a few years ago, Slavic Missionary Service immediately began to raise funds to assist the construction of a new entrance, foyer, bathroom and dining hall. Besides feeding the children twice a day, this completed area has already been utilized for numerous ministries, including Bible studies, women’s meetings, children’s outreach and special occasions.
Slavic Missionary Service is grateful to the Lord for the opportunity to assist Oksana with this ministry from its inception in 1999. To see children rescued from hunger, poverty, neglect and abuse shows the significance of this special place. The Transfiguration Center offers compassion, hope and possibilities for a better way of life.
Consider how you can help this worthy outreach through SMS. “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed” (Proverbs 19:17). And pray that God will give Oksana and her staff strength and wisdom to continue this vital outreach in the city of Bryansk that has a population of 411,000.
